A love tethered for life.

After our daughter, Reese, was stillborn at 39 weeks in 2014, I found myself reluctantly in the loss community. Her death was caused by a double nuchal cord just 16 hours shy of her scheduled delivery—a tragedy that changed the course of my life and the way I approach motherhood. I found comfort in talking about her life, my care and the intersection of the two. Through this, I discovered that the healthcare community wanted to learn from our experience. This is how Tethered Care took root.

Reese sparked a courage in me that I never knew existed—a love tethered for life. Throughout the years, I have shared Reese’s story with healthcare professionals in Minneapolis and across the country, paired with tips for providing effective care for parents during and after pregnancy loss. I have found that this type of care is rarely spoken about or taught in preparation but most definitely experienced in practice. These concepts are so human in nature and often left out of prenatal and postpartum care.

I approach my work with individuality, as I know the work in this space is complicated. No two stories are the same and yet loss leaves no person untouched.
